The SPN Newsletter is the current fandom newsletter serving the entirety of the Supernatural Fandom.
The SPN Newsletter has been posting editions dating back to February 17, 2006.
Each Edition of the Newsletter include all links we can find since the previous edition that involve Supernatural or the cast of the show, pending a few exceptions that are outlined below. We try to bring every piece of Supernatural news and fanworks of all types and subjects we can possibly include to the fandom at large.
How do I submit something to the newsletter?
You have several options:
1) Fill out our Rec Submission Form
2)Follow us on Twitter at @spnnewsletter, and tag us with #RecMeSPNNL.
3) Post it to Ao3, with pairing if any, rating and title. We are able to catch most Ao3 posts under the ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Supernatural RPF’ tags.
4) Email it to [email protected]
5) Follow us on Instagram at @spn._.newsletter and tag us.
6) Follow us on Tumblr at @spn-newsletter and tag us.
7) If we’ve missed you in the previous edition, you can comment on our most recent edition and we’ll get you that way.
What do I need to do to get linked in an edition?
Basically, do something related to SPN! Fic, icons, meta, fanmixes, art, vids, etc. Fanworks that have been created and posted, within a few days to a week of the most current edition.
Beyond that, we do have some guidelines:
Fan Fiction (including Podfics/books):
Your fic MUST include a title, rating and pairing OR the statement of an absence of a pairing (“gen” or “no pairing”). We will NOT link a fic without these three things. We will refuse to link your fic without those three requirements. So spell it out for us–Sam/Dean, Jared/Jensen, Jared/JeffreyDean Morgan, etc, etc
“Wincest” is not a valid pairing listing.
Wincest can refer to Sam/Dean OR Sam/John, Dean/John, Sam/Dean/John, etc. We do not make assumptions about your fic, so if you have “Wincest” listed as the pairing we will pass it by until we see it listed as Sam/Dean or whichever Winchesters happen to be getting lucky! Let’s not forget Henry and Adam!
We now use the Ao3 rating system of General, Teens and up, Mature and Explicit to rate fic.
We require all fic to meet a 1,000 word minimum.
Artistic Fanworks | Icons | Wallpapers| Screenlocks
Any Icons | Wallpapers |Screenlocks and fanart must be labeled for pairings or something explicit in the fanart, a note of the rating and pairing so we can list it properly for the newsletter readers. If it’s Not Safe for Work, please label it as such.
Pics | Screencaps
Since the show has ended and all seasons have now gone to DVD/Blueray, we no longer include individual screencaps in the newsletter. If you would like to have screencaps included, they must be part of a picspam of at least 6 images, and additional content is required.
Pics must be original posts by the photographer. Edits of photos are now included in the Artistic Fanworks category.
Must be a minimum of 30 seconds long and include some footage from Supernatural, official Supernatural events, or the lead talent on the show.
Covers fandom contributions created in different media from fanart, fanfic, fanvids, etc. Can include things from podfics (which fall under the qualifications that regular fic require), fanmixes, original songs, etc.
Again, more information is always welcome and greatly appreciated.
Why do I have to wait for the most recent newsletter to comment with my link?
Honestly, because most people crosspost like a mofo. If you’ve posted your work across Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter, there’s a good chance we’ll catch it in more than one place.
Where do you get the links that make up the newsletter every day?
Anywhere on the net we can find them.
You’re a fandom service. Shouldn’t you link to whatever people post?
The coders who work on this newsletter do so in their own free time. We have the rules we do to make coding as easy as possible on ourselves, the readers and the submitters. That’s why currently we only include fic of 1,000 words or more, picspams of 4 or more images, or vids no shorter than 30 seconds and content that cannot be considered advertising.
I left a comment/suggestion/criticism/kudos for you guys but no one got back to me!
Bear with us!
You didn’t address a question/issue/concern I have!
Tag us on Twitter or send us an email and we can answer it for you to the best of our abilities as soon as possible.
I have created fandom content and you didn’t link to it!
This is a predominately Supernatural place, rather than an actor only place. If there is a crossover with SPN, we will link to it happily. If there is RPF with Jared or Jensen, we will also link to that.
Why has my work stopped being included in the newsletter?
Does your work include appeals for commissions? Have you given us a reason to believe you no longer wish for your work to be included in the Newsletter? Do you have one of our socials accounts or any of or mods’ socials accounts blocked? If we cannot see your work, we cannot link your work. If you believe we have reached this conclusion in error, please email us at the address provide in the contacts section.
The SPN Newsletter Anti-Hate Policy
The SPN Newsletter is a safe place for all of Fandom. This means we do not condone bullying towards cast, crew or members of the community in general. We will not amplify works by creators who spread hate. If you believe one of the creators whose work we have featured has been bullying or spreading hate throughout the community, please let us know by providing receipts via one of the means of contact in our contact section of this webpage.
